Green gel eyeliner with sparkle

Angela xxx

I’m a huge fan of eye makeup but as I celebrated my 38th birthday on Monday the fine (and not so fine) lines that accompanied the party had me thinking about my sudden interest in gel eyeliner.

If you aren’t familiar with gel eyeliners, they are a type of gel or cream eyeliner that comes in a pot. You apply the liner with a fine or angled brush – I prefer the latter.

Unlike the unforgiving liquid eyeliner, a creamy and long lasting gel eyeliner has multiple uses. It is the perfect product to create a dramatic cat eye, smokey eye and daywear. More importantly, the gel blends into my fine lines and loose skin. The reason being as the skin on the top lid loses it’s elasticity and tightness, the gentle approach of lining with a brush is quite forgiving and makes the process easier.

So the next time you think about eye makeup, or maybe you’re looking to try something new, I highly recommend experimenting with gel eyeliners.

Here are 5 more reasons why I love gel eyeliners:

  • They are available in a wide range of colours such as grey, navy, emerald, bronze and of course, black.
  • The gel/cream is soft so it’s easy to apply and you can get close and even cover the lash line
  • Blending is very easy and you can create a beautiful smokey eye
  • You can use the same liner for a dramatic evening look or a casual soft look during the day
  • Most options are long lasting liners that don’t smudge or bleed

Style AND Tonic Hints

# Always prepare your face for makeup with Primer

# Apply eye shadow first, Gel eyeliner second

# Press your brush into the pot and ensure there is gel coating on all sides of brush

#Remove excess cream by dabbing on tissue paper or the back of your hand

# It takes about 30-60 secs for the gel to dry so work/layer on alternating eyes
